Longtown Primestock Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Limited had forward 9,033 comprising of 5,664 prime hoggs and 3,369 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown Mart on Thursday 21st March 2024.

Another mixed offering of mainly hill cows were forward, with the majority non farm assured yet a competitive ringside of buyers ensured a brisk trade throughout. The sale topped at 228p for a Galloway from WJ Henderson, Whitehill, Corrie with Angus cows to 175p from D Coulter, North Deanhead, Peebles. Stabiliser cows sold to 168p from AJ Baldwyn, Satchells, Melrose and Luings to 165p from JW Davidson, Crosslee, Selkirk. Top per head of £1,174 from Whitehill, Angus to £1,146 from Glenrath, Stabilsier to £1,134 from Satchells and £1,039 for Luings from Crosslee.

A much larger show of 5,664 hoggs were forward to a full contingent of buyers with hard fed sheep still in big demand. Grass fed sheep and leaner types met some resistance and would be better sold in the store here on a Tuesday. Still countless pens of heavies £200 plus and exports 400ppk plus.

Top per head of £270 for Texels from WJ & JG Bell, Kinninghall, Hawick.
