Longtown Primestock Sale Report
C&D Auction Marts Limited had forward 6,213 comprising of 3,602 prime hoggs, 226 spring lambs and 2,385 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown Mart on Thursday 16th May 2024.
A larger offering of cast cows were forward to a competitive ringside of buyers. More numbers are required on a weekly basis to satisfy buyer demand. The sale topped at 256p for Limousin from Messrs Jackson, Annfield, Ballantrae with others to 249p from Bridgewater & Wood, Potholm, Langholm. Top per head of £1,755 for a Limousin from N McBurney, Balsalloch, Girvan with others to £1,651 from Annfield. Charolais sold to £1,642 from Moorfields, with Simmentals to £1,641 and Angus to £1,627 from the same good home.
A select show of spring lambs sold to a top of 468p for Beltex lambs from Todburn and Texels selling to 453p from R Johnston, Kimmeter Green, Annan. Top per head of £225 for Beltex for Todburn, Suffolks to £218 from HM Martindale, The Land, Ecclefechan and Texels to £215 from Beckfoot.

A seasonal and very mixed show of 3,602 hoggs were forward. Well fleshed hoggs maintained recent high rates of return being short of buyers requirements. A big number of lean hoggs proved harder to sell.
Top per kilo of 480p for Beltex shown by JP Mason & Sons, East Farm, Langton which also peaked the top per head of £260 again for Beltex.
