Longtown Primestock Sale Report
C&D Auction Marts Limited had forward an entry of 7,978 sheep comprising of 23 Spring Lamb, 5,699 hoggs and 2,256 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown Mart on Thursday 10th April 2025.
Included in the opening sale of spring lambs was the annual prize show and sale which was ably judged by Mr Stuart stark of MJ Stark Ltd. Awarding his overall champion to M/s I & J Barbour, Beechgrove, Annan.
Topping the sale was a single Suffolk lamb at £200 and at 416.7p from I&J Barbour, Beechgrove.

An increased show of 5,699 prime hoggs were forward to the same ring of competitive purchasers. Super heavy hoggs proved better to sell whilst hoggs 48-53kg met some resistance. Inside fed export hoggs still in demand whilst grass fed hoggs proved difficult to place.
Topping the sale was a fantastic single Texel hogg at £310 from Highfield Farming Ltd, Knock, Duns.
Top price per kilo was a single Beltex hogg at 459.5p from Riverview, Lockerbie.

An entry of 2256 cast ewes proved very good to sell with all classes meeting increased demand. Many more wanted on a weekly basis to satisfy customer demand. Keep them coming for premium returns.
Heavy ewes topped at £350 with Texel ewes from Lowry Gardens & Tercrosset.
Lightweight ewes topped at £225 for a pen of Romney’s from Tetcott.
Rams to £285 for a Texel from Knock.

Numbers very light on the week, many more numbers of cast and prime cattle needed on a weekly basis here at Longtown to fulfil buyer’s demand.
Top price per kilo goes to a Simmental cross cow realising 296 pence per kilo from Messrs Graham, Orchard Farm.
Top price per head was a 770kg Simmental cross cow realising £2263 from Messrs Graham, Orchard Farm.
