Longtown Store Sheep Sale Report
C&D Auction Marts Ltd held their premier sale of Cheviot store lambs at Longtown on Wednesday 18th September 2019, where there was an entry of 3,118.
Great credit must be given to all vendors for showing their lambs in great bloom and condition. Buyers were out in force from a wide area. Trade was buoyant from start to finish, with all vendors delighted with their returns. Overall average was £52.35, a rise of £1.35 on the year.
Judging was in the capable hand of Mr Eddie Eastham, Longburghfauld, Burgh by Sands, Carlisle, whos awards were as follows;
Hill Cheviots
1st - Messrs Luescher, Glendinning, Westerkirk - £59
2nd - Mrs Randall, Drycleuchlea, Roberton - £55.50
3rd - Messrs Laing, Twislehope, Newcastleton - £58.50
Hill North Cheviots
1st - Messrs Bradbury, Satchells, Lilliesleaf - £54
2nd - Messrs Dunlop, Commonside, Teviothead - £58
3rd - Sorbietrees Farms, Newcastleton - £57
Other prices £57.50 Windyhaugh, £57 Effgill, £56.50 Hopsrig, £56 Carterton.
A smaller show of Blackfaces, due to the prize show and sale being next week, proved too few for requirements and many more could have been sold to vendors advantage. Top £56 Townshields, £50.50 Townfoot & East Woodburn, £49.50 Blakehope.
All other store lambs (2,805) easily maintained late high rates with buyers again keen for numbers. Top of the day was £76 for Beltexs from Parknook & £70 Troloss. Texels to £72.50 Edgerston, £70 Gillalees & East Foreshields, £69 The Crook; Suffolks to £67 Lynnshield, £63 & £62 Edgerston, £60 Edgerston & Banks Head; Charollais to £61 The Crook; Half Bred to £57 Bankhead; Cheviot Mule to £56.50 Upper Kidston; Greyfaces to £59 Gill Head; Lleyn to £53 Low Tipalt.
Tup lambs to £71 for Texel from Lochwoodmains, £70 Crindledykes.
Feeding ewes to £61 Meikle Whitriggs, £60 Banks Head.
Cast rams to £52 Troloss.
